"Nocturnal Flaneuses" at Prix Phonurgia Nova
Documentary about women walking at night
Three women document their nighttime strolls in Germany with a microphone, reflecting on the magic of the night that lies within, while touching on their fears and limitations:
Shubhra enjoys strolling through her favorite streets in Berlin at night and peering into illuminated jewelry windows. She reflects on her upbringing in India where venturing out alone at night was simply not possible.
Felicia delves into the depths of the Berlin woods at night, outside the grasp of urban overstimulation. She talks about her experiences when the outside world still perceived her as a man.
And Nele embarks on nocturnal strolls, immersing herself in the vibrant atmosphere of nightlife, sometimes to escape her insomnia.
The documentary features female flaneurs as they confidently explore traditionally male-dominated spaces in Germany. This journey invites listeners to experience the night from a perspective that transcends societal restrictions and challenges the conventional narrative that portrays the night as dangerous for women walking alone.
