"Josefa" - Winner at Columbia Radio Race

Columbia Journalism Radio Race

“Josefa” was selected as the winner of the 2025 Columbia Journalism School Radio Race by Radiolab founder Jad Abumrad, after being picked as one of the five finalists by the competition organizers Sally Herships and Daniel Galarcon.

Radio Race is an audio storytelling competition where participants get the same set of rules and have a little over 48 hours to submit a completed piece.

Rules Radio Race 2025

At the 2025 race, the requirements were:

‣ Theme: Rebirth
‣ Length: 2 minutes (no longer)

‣ Piece must be produced in New York City

‣ Include a mention of a NYC landmark

‣ Include the name of a bodega said by a real customer at the bodega

‣ Recorded, edited and sound designed by Laura Rojas and Vivien Schütz
‣ Music by Blue Dot Sessions
